The Data Science Major is one of the six Bachelor’s Programmes in Science and Technology. Besides DS, there are also the following five majors:
A Bachelor’s degree consists of 180 ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) credits that you are expected (but not obliged) to complete in 3 years. 1 ECTS is on average estimated to equal roughly 27 hours of work.
Most courses are 5 ECTS, but some are, for example, 1 ECTS or 6 ECTS courses.
Your degree can be divided in 5 parts:

Basic studies include the basic courses that almost all technology majors take. Such courses are, for example, Calculus 1, Programming 1 & 2, Matrix Algebra and so on.

The courses under your major studies only relate to DS students. Some of your major courses are Machine Learning, Statistical Inference and Introduction to Optimization.

20–25 ECTS
A minor subject is a compulsory part of a bachelor’s degree. Your minor is essentially another subject for which you take 3-5 courses. That could be, for example, physics, business, marketing, biology or any other specific field of study. Choosing your minor can get challenging, so don’t worry if you can’t think of anything now.
Here’s the list of minors within Aalto University, but you can also choose one from another Finnish university through the Flexible Study Right (JOO) agreement or from a university abroad during a student exchange.

25-30 ECTS
Your electives are simply the courses that you want to study, but they don’t have to relate to your major or minor studies.
Note: the elective studies may include a work placement furthering professional development. It is possible to include 1–10 ECTS of work experience in a bachelor’s degree.

Bachelor's Thesis and Seminar is a 10 ECTS study module that is completed during one study term in third year of studies.
